January 10 Meeting | Updates in Pharmacy Regulations for Veterinarians

Our first meeting in January is for doctors and technicians. This meeting will be held in the Ballroom at the John Ball Park/Zoo. This is the large detached building outside the gates of the zoo at the bottom of the hill. Please click on the 'register' button to register you and your technicians for this meeting, or email chris.dykhouse@wmvma.org and include the name(s) of doctors and technicians who would like to attend. 

Members of the Keystone Pharmacy team (Khaila Allen, CPhT, Adam King, LPhT, PRS, and Tom Magnifico, RPh) will speak on several new developments in pharmaceutical legislation and regulations that directly affect veterinarians and veterinary general practice. USP General Chapter <800> Hazardous Drugs - Handling in Healthcare Settings was written to protect all workers, patients and general public who may be accessing facilities where Hazardous Drugs are prepared. This includes veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Our meeting will over an overview of USP Chapter <800> as well as how it will affect veterinary facilities.

This is a brief list of some of the drugs covered by USP 800:

  1. Antineoplastic drugs (injectable and oral) including cyclophosmamide, carboplatin, chlorambucil, doxorubicin, mitotane (Lysodren), etc.
  2. Non-antineoplastic drugs including apomorphine, azathioprine, chloramphenicol, cyclosporine, DES, methimazole, spironolactone, tacrolimus, etc.
  3. Drugs with reproductive side effects, including cabergoline, fluconazole, misoprostol, oxytocin, pamidronate, zonisamide, etc.
