The WMVMA is very excited to welcome Dr. Tammy Sadek to present a webinar on getting complete, thorough, and accurate physical exams on anxious feline patients, especially those with anxious owners.
Most cats are stressed from the moment they leave home for their veterinary appointment, to hours after they return home. Their owners are often equally anxious. This lecture will review strategies to reduce their stress and improve both the owner and the cat’s experience at the veterinary hospital. Topics include carrier preparation, hospital procedure and exam room optimization including pheromone therapy, bonding with the anxious owner, examining the stressed cat in the carrier using towels, taking weights, blood pressures and lab samples in the exam room, and using medications to reduce feline anxiety and stress. The lecture will also include interpreting the stressed cat’s lab results, how to reintroduce the cat into the multi-cat household after the appointment, and discuss the importance of written take home instructions and scheduling the follow up appointment.
