About the event topic:

Dr. Sarah Churgin, a zoological medicine specialist and certified acupuncturist, will discuss basic principles of acupuncture as well as describe its application in both domestic and non-domestic species ranging from small mammals to giant pandas! She will describe some case studies and also discuss her time working abroad in Asia as well, and is happy to answer general questions about zoo and exotic medicine too.

About our speaker:

Dr. Sarah Churgin obtained her DVM from Texas A&M in 2009. She completed a zoological medicine residency at the University of Wisconsin in 2014, and became a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine in 2017. She spent eight incredible years as a full-time clinical veterinarian at Ocean Park Hong Kong. During her tenure at Ocean Park, she also became certified in veterinary acupuncture and took additional training in veterinary palliative care and traditional Chinese veterinary medicine. In 2022 she moved back to her hometown in Phoenix to take a new position at Arizona State University, where she is now leading the pre-veterinary student program and teaching full-time. She is really enjoying the new challenge of teaching and the academic environment, although she does miss her dolphins - and her dim sum.
